Patterned or plain curtains

At The Fine Curtain Company, we believe that no room is complete without curtains, and we understand that finding the perfect fabric to match your room is no easy feat, that’s why we’re here to help you.

You may already have an idea of the style of curtain you would like, but if you’re totally in the dark, trying to find the perfect fabric may seem like an impossible task. We’re here to help you decide whether plain or patterned curtains are right for your room.

Why Patterned?

Patterned curtains can be a great way to add flair to a simple interior. They can be used to help bring a new colour into a room without it being too overwhelming, or to bring a secondary colour in your space to life.

Whilst we love the maximalist fabrics we have available, ‘patterned’ doesn’t necessarily have to mean bold and bright; simple patterns such as subtle florals or stripes can be used to add life and movement into a room, as can a monochrome, textured curtain such as our Pom Pom Pampas fabric.

If you’re looking to create a theme to your room such as Maximalism, Art Deco or Cottagecore, patterned curtains are definitely the way to go.

There are so many different routes you can go down when it comes to patterns for your made to measure curtains, from geometric to floral, stripes to squares and even jungle or farm animals, patterns are a great way to make a room feel more fun whilst also being functional; why not hang some seagull patterned curtains around your kitchen window? It’ll be a talking point to say the least!

Plain and Simple

Whilst Patterned curtains are great, there’s also benefits to keeping it plain and simple with your window dressings. A plain curtain will be timeless, it won’t go out of style and it’s unlikely you will fall out of love with them in the way you might with an eclectic pattern.  It also means that when the time comes to redecorate, it’ll be much easier to bring your existing curtains into your new decor, saving you not only money, but time. If the rest of your room is particularly busy or small and already full to the brim with a mismatch of patterns, a plain curtain can add a touch of tranquillity to the space.

A plain curtain is not synonymous with a boring curtain, you can still opt for a bright and bold colour to add vibrancy to your room without making it feel too overwhelming, such as our Allure Magenta or Panama Cornflower.

Whichever side you take, patterned or plain, we’ve got something for you. Can’t decide? Why not order some samples of both, don’t forget that if patterned curtains are a step too far, you can always order bespoke patterned cushions to add life to your room.
