Introducing Ian Mankin, a quality fabric manufacturer founded in 1983. Dedicated to keeping the British textile industry alive, the company has been run by the same family for six generations.

Ian Mankin fabrics are made from 100% natural fibres and are all weaved in their very own traditional cotton mill, based in Lancashire – the beating heart of the cotton weaving industry.

Let’s take a dive into what Ian Mankin does best. Synonymous with ticking stripes, gingham checks, elegant florals and gloriously textured neutrals. Timeless designs are at the heart of the brand, Ian Mankin is instantly recognisable, with the effortless styles and palettes.

Classic and refined

Bring order and structure into your space with stripes. The styles can vary enormously; so it’s important to consider that horizontal stripes can make a room bigger, whilst vertical stripes are more suited to rooms with low ceilings and wide windows. With that in mind Ian Mankin is the perfect brand to choose if you’re looking for a classic striped curtain.

You’ll discover a plethora of designs with a wide range of classic colours.

Elegant textures

If you’re looking for longevity with your curtains you can’t go wrong with neutrals. Although neutrals needn’t be plain! Opting for natural linens, silks or wools create wonderful window treatments.

Neutral curtains mean you might want to add a splash of colour with your curtains. Whilst we offer the option of creating matching curtains with every order, you could be bold with a bold gingham or timeless floral pattern.

Timeless styles

Forget loud in your face patterns, Ian Mankin tackles florals in an elegant and sophisticated manner. You’ll find bold damasks, to simple floral motifs, all coming in a range of soft naturals or rich colourways.

Always the highest quality

Ian Mankin fabrics come in a variety of materials with cotton, silk, linen and wool to choose from. Material plays a huge part in how a curtain looks in your finished space. Characteristics of fabrics differ, meaning some work better than others in certain spaces.

Did you know Linen is famous for its antibacterial properties. It absorbs moisture and is even moth resistant.

As always we promise only to use the highest quality fabrics, lasting durability and strong pigmentation are imperative when creating beautiful curtains. Ian Mankin is just one of the fantastic suppliers we have on our books which never disappoints. Search our range of hundreds of fabrics online today.

Every year you’ll see design trends come and go. Whilst some stay for the long haul, other trends fade away as quickly as they appear. As we conclude 2022, we look forward to welcoming a brand new year, and with that comes the feeling of starting a fresh slate.

Whether you’re a homeowner who embraces change and enjoys dappling in the latest trends, or a traditionalist who prefers to opt for a timeless style. Interiors are just as unique as you and we believe you should be able to choose from a range of fabrics to suit both your home and personality.

Bold and bright

With certain colours evoking different moods; why not take this theory in to your home? Carefully consider what colour, style and pattern you choose before using in spaces in your home as this can have a knock-on effect to the ambience of your space.

Blues have always been a popular colour for the bedroom with its tranquil and serene energy. However, rich colours are expected to trend in 2023 with warm colours such as yellow hues seeing an influx in popularity due to leading companies such as Dulux naming their colour of the year ‘Wild Wonder’™ a tone which brings the feeling of nature in your home with a warm and calming vibe. However using bright bold colours such as pinks, reds and oranges are powerful colours perfect for entertaining spaces and will ensure guests feel invigorated and excited when in your home. Viva Magenta, Pantone’s colour of the year for 2023 is a perfect example of a colour which is powerful and empowering.

Texture

Mixing mediums such as natural fabrics alongside natural and industrial materials such as metal and stone elements brings a contrast to the soft and strong to your space. Incorporating natural materials such as jutes, and textured linens also brings a calming effect, especially in larger open plan rooms.

2023 is expected to see lots of woods and earth tones to counterbalance the chaotic world we’re living in. Creating a calming space that you can unwind in after a stressful day is key to maintaining a stress free environment. Using earth tones such as greens and blues as a colour palette, with natural materials is a great starting point.

Highland Plain Flax

Traditional

If you’re more of a traditionalist then keeping things classic is easy with our large range of fabrics. Keep wall colours neutral to allow for art, textile and accessories to pop. Dark rich colours such as reds, browns and greens are plentiful when it comes to traditional fabrics – add matching tiebacks for that true classic look.

Don’t be afraid to be bold, whether you do it with colour or pattern.

Wildflower Floral Red

Which trend do you lean towards? Will you be making any changes to your interiors next year? Whether you have a renovation on the horizon or just looking to freshen up your window treatment, it’s the perfect, cost effective way to give your room a whole new look.

As the clocks go back and the leaves have fallen, it’s time to accept that Autumn is well and truly upon us. We’ve all started to notice the drop in temperature, so now it’s time to consider styling your home for the colder months ahead. It’s time to start bringing out the cosy throws, incorporating autumnal patterned cushions or even considering thermal curtains to keep your house toasty this season.

What benefit will thermal curtains have in my home?

It’s said that 30% of heat is lost through a building’s window. Thermal curtains are the perfect way to combat this as they will help to keep the temperature in your home ambient. Whether it’s keeping the room cool in summer or warmer in winter, a good pair of curtains can help your property stay at a comfortable temperature, and help keep out those pesky drafts.

How does it work?

It’s really quite simple. Thermal fabric creates a thermal boundary between the air from outside and the room itself. Essentially the curtain traps cold or hot air between the window and the curtain, preventing it from moving around your space. In summer the sun is reflected back outside maintaining a cooler space whilst in the winter the heat is kept inside your room.

How do I get the best out of my thermal curtains?

We know that installing curtains can seem like a very daunting task. We don’t mean to scare you but if you want to get the most out of your thermal curtains then installing them correctly is paramount. Our hack is: the more airtight your curtains are the better their insulation will be, install your curtains several inches above the top of the window and well below the level of sil.

If you want to further increase the efficiency, you could consider laying with blinds. Using a contrasting pattern or colour is a great way to add style.

Can I pick any style I want for my thermal curtains?

Every single fabric you can view on our site can have thermal lining, simply choose this option whilst creating your ideal pair. Creating your own tailored curtains means you can choose everything from headings to bespoke tiebacks.

Whatever your style, we are sure to have a pattern for you. With hundreds of fabrics to choose from you can create your own curtains made to measure for you.

If you’re looking to find out how to measure curtains and roman blinds then you’ve come to the right place, follow our simple guide to purchasing the perfect made to measure curtains for your home.

Measuring the window width

When measuring for new curtains and blinds use a metal tape
measure.
If you have a pole, measure the pole width excluding the end finials (from A to B, as diagram shows). If you have a track measure the total width (from C to D, as diagram shows).
When fitting a new track or pole, if possible, this should be fitted 15cm above the window and 25cm each side of the window recess (this allows for the curtains to be stacked back away from the window).
If you have a track that overlaps you need to measure both sides of the track and add them together. You must measure the pole or track and not the window recess

Measuring the finished curtain length

The finished length is the measurement from the very top of the
curtain to the bottom hem.
Firstly, decide on where you would like your curtains to fall, this is your bottom hem position. The diagrams show suggested lengths for both sill, and floor length curtains.
For curtains below window sill length allow 1cm clearance above the radiator and 1cm clearance above the carpets.
Always measure the length to the left, right and centre of your pole/track. Where the measurements vary, choose the length that suits best, ideally in whole centimetres.

For pencil and pinch pleat curtains
When using a track, measure from the top of the track. This is so that your curtain will cover the track when it’s drawn. When using a pole, measure from the eye on the curtain ring to your finished drop, your curtain will
then hang beneath the pole. If you require your curtains to hang from a different position on the track or pole then you will need to measure from that point to your finished drop.

For Eyelet headings
Firstly, measure from the top of the pole to your required bottom hem position, this is the eyelet drop*. Now add to this 3cm. (This is the amount of curtain above the eyelet hole), this gives your finished length.

How to measure for blinds

Inside recess

Blinds can be hung either inside or outside the window recess.
When measuring for your blind to fit inside your recess, it is advisable to measure (for both width and length) in 3 places top, middle and bottom just in case the window recess is irregular. Watch out for obstructions into
the recess, such as dado rails and tiling.
Then give the smallest exact measurement for both width and length of the recess with no deduction in millimetres.

Outside recess

Decide how much you want the blind to hang outside the recess. For roman blinds we would recommend 10 – 15cm above the window as this will allow for most of the blind to be pulled up away from the window this maximising the light.
For roman blinds you need to decide how far past the window you want the blind to hang. Most manufacturers recommend a minimum overlap of 5cm on each side.

TIP: Roman blinds should be as wide as the window sill.

Are you lucky enough to have period features such as bay windows in your home? If so, are you making the most of them?

Bay windows are most prevalent in Victorian homes, this is due to a regulatory adjustment to the Building Act in 1894. This meant windows were no longer required to be flush with an external wall and therefore could protrude outwards. This of course saw the introduction of bay windows as a common feature. Whilst bay windows did exist prior to the amended act, these tended to be built on mansions around the Renaissance era.

Whether your bay window is in your living room, dining room or even your bathroom there’s opportunities for turning that tricky space into a unique feature.

Below we explore some options for your bay window.

The home office

Many of us are familiar with working from home these days and with remote working more popular than ever, having a space dedicated to your work is important to keep work separate from home life. The window is a great space to add a desk, with plenty of daylight and perhaps if you’re lucky – a lovely view. You’ll be more inspired than ever whilst working.

It’s worth considering, however, if you do place your computer or desk in the window that this may be visible from the outside. Hide unsightly cables with cable tidies and enlist a good organisation system for any paperwork you might have.

The reading nook

The bay window is an ideal space to snuggle into a comfy armchair or sofa and enjoy your favourite book. Add a bookshelf close by for easy access and a side table for your beverage of choice and you’ll be set to while away a few chapters.

Accessorise with a throw and plenty of cushions to make the space feel extra cosy.
With each decade comes a new style, from art deco to minimalism and everything in between. Choosing a theme for a room can be impacted by your current era or from times gone by. When it comes to soft furnishings such as curtains, you can use these to add accents of colour, create an impact with bold flowing fabric or keep it simple with neutral textures.

History of curtains …

The Egyptians first began using animal hides hung in doorways with hooks to create a barrier to the great outdoors, throughout the years these evolved to more flexible textiles spun from linen and flax, followed by more valuable fabrics made from wool, silk and cotton.

Early window treatments in the 16th century consisted of simple single pieces of fabric hung from rings through a rod. Through the following centuries we saw an increase in elaborate fabric, as the silk industry thrived, the wealthy used luxurious fabrics such as satin, silk and later chintz, bringing a new lease of life to home interiors. This was only accentuated with decorative pelmets with elaborate embroidery.

Fast forward to the turn of the century, the introduction of corded heading tapes were developed to speed up curtain manufacturing. The early 1900s saw the introduction of radiators and in turn meant that sill length curtains were much more popular over the long elaborate curtains of times gone by.

Each decade is characterised with its own style and we often look back for interior inspiration.

1920s

Art deco was popularised in the 1920s combining modern style with craftsmanship. Renowned for its glamour and exuberance, this era was influenced by cubism and bright colours of fauvism. Inspired by technological innovations, art deco fabrics are made up of elegant lines, geometric shapes and symbolism.

1930s

The great depression meant that art deco was still prevalent. Striking colours were popular with gold, orange and blue shades being key. Bold geometric patterns appear across fabrics, floor, and door panels, as well as inspiring lighting. The 30’s embraced mix and match patterns, different styles and textures.

1940s

The 40s was defined by World War II with the decade split between wartime and postwar design. With every aspect of life impacted by the war, new designs weren’t readily available and instead shorter curtains with sheer or velvet textiles were popular. Florals and polka dots were common as well as delicate pinstripes.

1950s

Pastels and Scandinavian influences were the key highlights of this era. The mid century movement saw popular colours such mint greens, bright oranges and reds. Simple solid coloured drapes to create clean lines was the way forward for a 50’s style.

1960’s

The swinging 60’s brought explosive colours, bright oranges and yellows, greens, blues and reds. Anything goes with patterns and nothing was off limits. This era was exciting and expressive. Mid century modern was still very much in force during this decade, with clean simple furniture and bright textiles.

1970’s

Shag rugs, deep colour palettes and indoor plants were commonplace in a 70’s home. Think floating staircases, bean bags and rattan. This decade had conflicting styles with psychedelic prints and neon colours, but also deep brown neutrals and naturalism on the other hand.

1980’s

Gone are the days of bright oranges, and introducing pastels once again. Foiled wallpapers were popular alongside lacquered furniture. Interior design saw the return of art deco influences and gold trim.

1990’s

The 90’s were bold and playful with popular culture playing a big role in interior design styles. Vibrant colours and patterns were the go to, with animal print playing a huge role in textiles.

2000s and beyond have seen influences from the decades of time going by, with simple design hints you can easily influence your decor with classic details of previous eras.

We have an ever growing collection of fabrics to choose from with designers such as Orla Keily representing mid century modern vibes, Ashley Wilde providing traditional styles and Clarke and Clarke has a variety of contemporary fabrics, we’re sure you’ll find the perfect match for your home.

When it comes to choosing textiles for your home, it can feel like a minefield of choices. From deciding whether you’d prefer curtains or blinds, the all important choice of fabric and then the options of curtain style and lining. This is why we’ve made this process as simple as possible with a clear and easy ordering process meaning all you have to focus on is choosing your style.

We offer several options from interlined, sateen or of course blackout. Blackout lining is a popular choice for a multitude of reasons which makes it an ideal choice for homeowners looking to invest in a quality pair of curtains or blinds.

Block out light

As the name suggests adding blackout lining will ensure your room stays dark, blocking out any light that may have penetrated the fabric without it.

If you’re a shift worker, black out blinds or curtains are essential for getting good quality sleep. As well as those who need complete darkness to rest easily. Choosing this lining is ideal if you have an east facing window which receives the most light in the morning, especially during these summer months when the sun rises early. However you can also reap the benefits during winter when street lamps might be a hindrance to your sleep pattern.

Save your pennies

With electricity bills going up, it’s important to consider other options for keeping your home warm. Whilst we’re currently enjoying the summer weather, winter will roll around once again and keeping your home cosy and warm will be a top priority.

On average, up to 25% of thermal energy is lost via the windows. Adding blackout curtains or blinds will dramatically reduce the energy lost meaning your home will stay warmer for longer, whilst saving you money on your bills.

What are my options?

We offer blackout lining on all our made to measure curtains, roman blinds and roller blinds. No matter what your style is, blackout linings work on all colours, not just dark, meaning you can let your imagination run wild and choose the fabric which works best for your space.

Ordering is simple with our 5 step process, start your bespoke curtain journey here.

When decorating your room, it’s easy to think of the big things first, colour scheme, furniture, where you’re going to hang that huge mirror you bought from a carboot sale; these are often the main elements of your design – but what about the soft furnishings? Dressing your windows right can be an excellent way to create a unique, standout feature in a room, and really emphasise the key features of your interior design style.

Whether you’re searching for thick cosy drapes or light and breezy curtains, we can help you make the best considerations for your windows. Follow our top tips to complement your space with some top-notch curtain and blind collaboration.

It’s All An Illusion

Use curtains and blinds to emphasise your windows; Did you know shorter curtains can make a room look smaller and when paired with blinds will make your window appear crowded? To make the most of your windows, create an optical illusion with your curtains and blinds; If you wish to make your window appear larger, install your roman blind above the window mantle and match your blind with long length bespoke curtains which reach the floor for the perfect, space enhancing, combination.

Don’t Fear Textures

Like a good meal, a well designed room isn’t afraid to incorporate a combination of different textures. Your colour scheme may be limited, but textures are a great way to add variety whilst keeping your colour palette clean. By using similar colours in different textures you can create a completely different feel to your room allowing you to create a centrepiece. Choosing a thick roman blind will allow you to choose a lighter fabric with your curtains for a bright and breezy aesthetic. There’s beauty in contrast so embrace it.

Pattern Mix Like a Pro

Mixing patterns can be scary, but when it’s done right it can look incredible. Whilst this is a technique we would only advise for bigger spaces, mixing and matching prints is an excellent way to create a real statement in a room. Ordering fabric samples can help you scope out the feel of a room before you make your final decision.

There are many formulas to help you confidently mix patterns, ordering fabric samples can help you scope out the feel of a room before you make your final decision. We offer up to 6 free fabric samples to help you bring your moodboard to life.

Accessorise

We all know accessories are the final touch to really bring a look together. Adding some tiebacks will help add a more formal look to your decor. If you have curtains that will not be used functionally, why not add a tieback to each side to add that final element of sophistication and put-together-ness to your room? Why not add a bold curtain pole or tracks to really pull the look together?

If you’re looking to update your home, then look no further for your curtains for your window, with accompanying roman blinds. Order your free samples today to start your journey.

At The Fine Curtain Company, we believe that no room is complete without curtains, and we understand that finding the perfect fabric to match your room is no easy feat, that’s why we’re here to help you.

You may already have an idea of the style of curtain you would like, but if you’re totally in the dark, trying to find the perfect fabric may seem like an impossible task. We’re here to help you decide whether plain or patterned curtains are right for your room.

Why Patterned?

Patterned curtains can be a great way to add flair to a simple interior. They can be used to help bring a new colour into a room without it being too overwhelming, or to bring a secondary colour in your space to life.

Whilst we love the maximalist fabrics we have available, ‘patterned’ doesn’t necessarily have to mean bold and bright; simple patterns such as subtle florals or stripes can be used to add life and movement into a room, as can a monochrome, textured curtain such as our Pom Pom Pampas fabric.

If you’re looking to create a theme to your room such as Maximalism, Art Deco or Cottagecore, patterned curtains are definitely the way to go.

There are so many different routes you can go down when it comes to patterns for your made to measure curtains, from geometric to floral, stripes to squares and even jungle or farm animals, patterns are a great way to make a room feel more fun whilst also being functional; why not hang some seagull patterned curtains around your kitchen window? It’ll be a talking point to say the least!

Plain and Simple

Whilst Patterned curtains are great, there’s also benefits to keeping it plain and simple with your window dressings. A plain curtain will be timeless, it won’t go out of style and it’s unlikely you will fall out of love with them in the way you might with an eclectic pattern. It also means that when the time comes to redecorate, it’ll be much easier to bring your existing curtains into your new decor, saving you not only money, but time. If the rest of your room is particularly busy or small and already full to the brim with a mismatch of patterns, a plain curtain can add a touch of tranquillity to the space.

A plain curtain is not synonymous with a boring curtain, you can still opt for a bright and bold colour to add vibrancy to your room without making it feel too overwhelming, such as our Allure Magenta or Panama Cornflower.

Whichever side you take, patterned or plain, we’ve got something for you. Can’t decide? Why not order some samples of both, don’t forget that if patterned curtains are a step too far, you can always order bespoke patterned cushions to add life to your room.

Please note: Fixings will be required to install your blind depending on the mounting surface. Wallboard and plaster require the use of anchors such as expansion or toggle bolts. Brick, tile or stone need special plugs and drill bits, remember to always pre-drill holes in wood to avoid splitting.

Positioning the Blind

Inside The Recess
The blind should be positioned in the centre of the recess ensuring that the gap at either end is the same. A metal bracket (B) should be positioned approx. 8-10cms from each side, any other brackets, depending on the size of your blind, should be positioned equally along the length of the blind.

Outside the Recess

The blind should be positioned so that equal lengths of the blind extend outside the left and right sides of the recess. Determine the installation point by extending the fabric fully, taking into consideration the window sill or any other factors. A metal bracket (B) should be positioned approx. 8-10cms from each side, any other brackets, depending on the size of your blind, should be positioned equally along the length of the blind.

2. How to fit Lever Lock Metal Fixing Brackets (B)

3. Top Fixing or Face Fixing Brackets

The brackets supplied can be used to either top fix (ceiling) or face fix (wall) the blind. These are attached to the blind on delivery and need to be removed before fitting. To remove brackets from the blind, slide the lever anti-clockwise to release and then unclip.

Mark out the fixing positions on the frame, wall or ceiling. Ensure the brackets are positioned so the blind will not be obstructed during operation by window handles, levers etc.

Fix brackets into place using appropriate plugs and screws.

4. Installing the Blind

Place the rail in a slightly tilted position and slide over the metal edge of the bracket. Press the rail back and slide the swivel lever back to lock the rail in place.

5. Operating the blind

The blind operates on a continuous loop chain (A). By pulling the front or back of the chain down the blind will lower and lift as required, keep the chains vertical for smooth operation.

6. Rear Cord Safety Devices

The blind will arrive levelled and true. Your blind is fitted with two part breakaway devices on the lower rod pockets, each cord has two devices. Should these devices detach they will be retained on the cord and can be simply clicked back in place.

7. Internal Chain Breakaway Safety Mechanism

The blind is fitted with an internal breakaway cog housing the operating chain. Should the internal cog separate from the housing it can be inserted back into the blind by applying a firm and even pressure, the chain must be looped back on to the cog before it is re-inserted into the blind. The grooves on the cog must be corrected lined up with the grooves in the housing, the larger outer side of the cog should be closest to the edge of the blind. Once inserted back into the housing the blind will operate normally.

We take child safety seriously. Unfortunately, there have been numerous cases within the media on how non-compliant blinds are a silent killer within the home. We want to take this opportunity to ensure our Evaglide BSXL Roman Blinds have been independently Bureau Veritas tested and verified to meet the British Standards required to ensure complete peace of mind for your customers. We have completed two tests on our 76444 Rear Cord Breakaway for Rod Pocketsor Eyelets and 7666 Rear Cord Breakaway for Roman Blind Tape, both using our Breakaway Cog Control Unit. Our BSXL blinds are completely safe. The market leading and exclusive breakaway system means the cog of the blind is released when more than 6kg weight is applied.

Choosing the perfect curtains for your interior is no easy feat; with hundreds of sellers trying to gain your custom, it can sometimes be quite daunting. With all of this hassle comes the task of measuring your curtains to see the correct size required. With various pleat styles and differing tracks and poles it can be tricky to decipher how you will go about measuring your curtains. So, we have put together an easy to follow guide for you, so you can accurately and easily measure and order your new pair of curtains.

Curtain Poles and Tracks

The first obstacle is simply to see whether you have a curtain track or pole. If you have a curtain track, measure from one end of the track to your chosen end point, usually half way. If it’s easier, measure the entire length of the track and half this measurement. If you have a curtain pole, measure the entire length of the pole, not including the finials (pole ends). Often providing the best results, ensure that your curtain pole or track is about 15-20cm above your window and stretches about 15-20cm wider than the window on each side; this allows the curtains to hang naturally, but still maintains their structure to achieve a great overall look.

Pleats

Deciding on the perfect pleat for your interior can be tricky, so we have included some images to help you make a decision. Different pleats change the way the fabric is measured, the larger the pleat, the more fabric that is required. Don’t worry, we will do these calculations for you, all you need to do is provide us with the length of your pole or track. If you would prefer to do these calculations yourself, simply double the length of your pole or track and add 2.5cm to allow your curtains to nearly overlap.

Pencil Pleat

Pencil Pleat Curtains are widely popular, their elegant and intricate design provides a timeless and perfectly gathered curtain. A Pencil Pleat Curtain will usually have a heading that consists of three rows of string threaded through it, these rows allow for three different positions when placing the hooks, thus suiting all types of track and pole. These pleats create uniform folds at the top of the curtain, resembling the size and shape of a pencil, hence the name!

Eyelet Pleat

Eyelet Curtains, also known as Ring Top curtains, are a curtain heading for use with curtain poles and provide a sophisticated, modern look. The eyelet heading gives the impression of large, yet soft and minimalistic pleats. Eyelet curtains have metal rings at the top of the curtain, rather than header tape. Eyelets come in various colours, ensuring you can find some that will compliment your curtains perfectly!

Pinch Pleats

Pinch Pleated made to measure curtains are much more gathered around the heading than other curtains. The pleats are sewn into the curtains in a technical way to achieve a permanently gathered look. This type of pleat is very versatile, and looks great on both tracks and poles.

Curtain Length

When measuring your curtain length, the first step is deciding where you want the curtains to end. There are 3 common options that people tend to opt for: above the sill – curtains should end around 1cm about the windowsill, below the sill – curtains should end 15cm below the windowsill, and floor length – curtains should end 1cm about the floor. In cases where there is a window over a radiator, the curtains should end around 2-3cm above the top of the radiator, this ensures that the heat does not escape behind the curtain.

The second step is to measure the length of the curtains. This process differs depending on how your curtains are going to be hung. These are: Eyelet Curtains – measure from the top of the pole to your chosen end point, Pencil Pleat Curtains – measure from the eye of the curtain ring to your chosen end point, Curtain Tracks – measure from the top of the track to your chosen end point.

Here at The Fine Curtain Company, we are always happy to help should you have any queries on the correct way to measure your curtains or any other curtain related questions! Our handmade, bespoke made to measure curtains are tailored to the highest quality possible.
Opting for made-to-measure curtains gives you more choice to create a finished product that suits your exacting requirements. One of the many options is the heading of your curtains and we offer three different types.

Double Pleat – A more contemporary design that has small pleats separated by flat sections of fabric. Double pleat tends to give uniform folds and require less room when in an open position, but still provide the control and flow of regular pinch pleats. This type of curtain is versatile and therefore looks great in all kinds of setting

Eyelet – A contemporary curtain heading for use with curtain poles. Eyelet heading gives large even soft pleats and have metal rings at the top of the curtain. Eyelet curtains are well suited in a number of spaces including bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms.

Pencil Pleat – A classic design of tightly gathered folds to create a semi-cylindrical heading that resembles a line of pencils. From the close pleats of the header, the fabric tumbles freely to the floor. Pencil pleat curtains can be used on either poles or tracks and are often used in living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.

When choosing your Curtains and Blinds, the right lining is equally as important. It is helpful to keep in mind the functionality of your product – what do you want it to do?

Types of Linings

Sateen Lining is a 100% cotton material, perfect for keeping a light and airy space. Suitable for all rooms, where it is not so important to block out the light.

Thermal Blackout Lining designed not only to block sunlight, but to offer excellent thermal and sound insulation properties; thus conserving energy, dampening noise and saving money on heating costs.

Interlining is a Polyester/Viscose material, which adds another layer between your fabric and lining. This can be useful for helping to insulate, making it ideal for draughty area such as Patio doors.

Bonded Lining adds a luxurious drape and insulation. Our bonded linings help to improve body & drape. It is excellent for roman blinds and helps to create crisp folds. The higher density of the weave offers increased protection from the sun.

At The Fine Curtain UK Company we are dedicated to providing the very highest standard in handmade products, therefore if you require any further assistance in choosing your lining, do not hesitate to contact us.

Although both our curtains and blinds are made from high quality fabrics that guarantee durability and affordability, in which situation should you choose blinds over curtains or vice versa.

Blinds

Primarily, roman blinds are the practical choice for most of our buyers. Providing you with the ability to filter the light coming into a room. This is why they’re most popular with commercial properties such as offices, but also for domestic buildings where glare on the TV or computer screen is a common occurrence. With various colours and styles, you can ensure your blinds will fit with your interior design, as well as swift functionality.

Curtains

Each style of curtain available is specially crafted for a different purpose. For instance, a thicker material has draft prevention capabilities, and black out linings block the light from seeping in. The various styles and designs available work for all decors, whether that involves a light cotton fabric for a Scandinavian feel or a thick and plush fabric, adding a touch of luxuriousness.

Blinds vs curtains

Both our handmade curtains and bespoke blinds come in various colours and styles to suit all decors, albeit, curtains tend to have more scope when it comes to choosing different textures that complement your room. Nonetheless, blinds are known for their durability and easy to clean properties. Again, both blinds and curtains are able to be manufactured and fitted for energy saving purposes. However, if you’re looking for a solution as opposed to a contribution to decor, blinds tend to be cheaper.

Despite their differences, all in all, both blinds and curtains have their comparable advantages. The best way to choose which one for your property is to weigh up what is a priority to you and what problem you’re trying to fix. Or, if both fittings would be beneficial for your rooms, having both is a favoured solution for many of our customers.
